From there, charging the battery reverses this chemical process, and ideally reforms the sulfuric acid in its original quantities. The shortcomings of the traditional lead-acid battery design come into play with the issue of layering, also referred to as stratification.
If one of these batteries is subjected to low voltage charge or drain, the sulfuric acid electrolyte can become poorly mixed with the water, leaving stratified layers of high and low concentration, with the sulfuric acid settling at the bottom, leaving nothing but water up at the top. With AGM batteries, that acid layering is no longer possible, as the electrolyte is suspended in the glass mat, bound in place in with the electrode plates.
Optima batteries use an advanced form of AGM in sealed individual cells called Spiral cells, using 99.99% pure lead plates. The high vibration resistance and lightweight make for a no-brainer for these applications where stepping up to lithium-ion batteries are either cost prohibitive or do not provide the reserve capacity needed.
Interstate also has slightly better warranty coverage for their batteries overall, and with service centers all over the country, you might have easier access to getting a replacement. The difference is that since their emphasis is placed more on OEM replacement applications and therefore use a more traditional cell structure, they do not have the same durability or weight advantages of the Optima batteries.
Is this a daily driver or a work/tow vehicle that you need reliable performance from in AGM or even traditional lead-acid battery form? I run one in my daily driver right now, as I live close to a factory outlet, and they offer great prices with always excellent service.
Yellow Top are deep-cycle batteries, which means they excel in applications with high electrical load above what you would normally subject a stock vehicle to. Optima BlueT op : BlueT op batteries in their light gray case are essentially identical to the Yellow batteries in the fact that they are starting and deep-cycle capable, but with added threaded terminals on top in order to accommodate extra accessories that need to be run.

I live in Florida where it never gets very cold but as soon as the temp gets to below 50 degrees it won't turn over. 3 Batteries and all of them failing immediately after the replacement date.
I bought another interstate battery as it was partially covered but once this one is done will never buy another. User's recommendation: Look at reviews before buying and choose a company that offers good problem resolution and makes a more reliable product.

I bought an interstate battery less than 2yrs ago and was told by my friends not to get one, well I did not listen and not it is dead. Cross-referred solution This review is from a real person who provided valid contact information and hasn't been caught misusing, spamming or abusing our website.
I sent several e-mail messages to Interstate customer service and to the personal email box (I did a lot of digging online) of one of their executives. I also filed a claim with the NY State Attorney General's Office, a small claims court case in my county and a complaint with the BBB.

BIG TIME BULLIED, CUSSED OUT, VERY VULGAR, TOLD TO SHUT UP, DEAL WITH IT, WOULD NOT LISTEN, MANAGER THE SAME RESPONSE. I WAS POLITE AT ALL TIMES, NEVER CUSSED, NEVER SHOUTED.
I bought a brand-new Interstate battery at Costco for my Honda Accord and four months later it was dead. I drove my car a couple time a week and all of a sudden there was no power at all.
It is a Heavy-duty LED model with two ICR18650 3.7V rechargeable batteries. Never had much reason to use it, but bought it for dependability assuming that an expensive ($45) flashlight from Interstate would work OK.
It will not stay on longer than 5 minutes with batteries fully charged. First time I took it back they said the charger apparently did not work and gave me a new one.
Next time I tried it fully charged same result. If you want bad quality for high prices, Interstate is the place to go User's recommendation: Don't buy a flashlight from Interstate.
This review is from a real person who provided valid contact information and hasn't been caught misusing, spamming or abusing our website. The new battery went dead 2 months and I brought the car to Firestone and found out the battery was dead and was still under warranty, but Firestone charged us $32+ dollars to test it. Not happy won't go to firestone or buy another battery from rip off firestone.
InterstateBatteries says that they are a Christian organization, what a laugh. User's recommendation: Do not do business with this company.
