The Interstate for the truck runs $109 at Northern Tool + Equipment. I'm on my 3rd Ever start Max JCI battery (in 3 different cars, different sizes, but all southern versions)) and they are great, but all of them seep some electrolyte on the top.

I haven't had any problems with ever start (or as some call them never start) The one in my Cadillac (the regular black with read label El cheapo) is 5 or 6 years old and when last load tested gave 25 amps above it's rating. Once a year a check water level and give a 2 amp charge.

One word of caution...DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE CLAMPS TO THE POSTS WHEN INSTALLING THE BATTERY. If when tightening you use too much force it is possible to distort the seal around the posts, and they will leak.

This is my guess is especially a problem when you let the counter monkey at the chain auto parts place install the battery for you. I see lots of JCI (as well as Exile) batteries leaking electrolyte.

Does it mean that both batteries are made to the same quality specs just because Johnson Controls makes them both? The reason I ask is that someone on here who worked for a wheel bearing company had once said that the wheel bearings made for one of the auto manufacturers were spec'd lower than the ones they made for over the counter sales.

I like Interstate too but, in my area, they sit on the shelf too long and fresh batteries are very important. I like Interstate too but, in my area, they sit on the shelf too long and fresh batteries are very important.

I agree, The MAX batteries sell really fast while the Interstate's are collecting dust. I thought that WM had different Matt suppliers for the ever start line depending on the size and whoever will build it cheapest at the time.

Just bought Motor craft battery BXT-49 from Ford dealer for my E430, it has 3 years free replacement and 100 months pro-rated for $5 more than the Max. Each cell is made up of an array of positively and negatively charged lead plates immersed in an electrolyte, which in this case is a mixture of sulfuric acid and distilled water.

Without going into too much detail here, the electrical energy is stored in chemical form, and can be discharged in an electrochemical process to transfer negative and positive electrons between the lead, and turning the sulfuric acid into lead sulfate, forming water in the process. From there, charging the battery reverses this chemical process, and ideally reforms the sulfuric acid in its original quantities.

The shortcomings of the traditional lead-acid battery design come into play with the issue of layering, also referred to as stratification. If one of these batteries is subjected to low voltage charge or drain, the sulfuric acid electrolyte can become poorly mixed with the water, leaving stratified layers of high and low concentration, with the sulfuric acid settling at the bottom, leaving nothing but water up at the top.

With AGM batteries, that acid layering is no longer possible, as the electrolyte is suspended in the glass mat, bound in place in with the electrode plates. Optima batteries use an advanced form of AGM in sealed individual cells called Spiral cells, using 99.99% pure lead plates.

The high vibration resistance and lightweight make for a no-brainer for these applications where stepping up to lithium-ion batteries are either cost prohibitive or do not provide the reserve capacity needed. They are a popular OEM replacement for factory AGM batteries, and actually act as an original supplier for many brands as well.

Interstate also has slightly better warranty coverage for their batteries overall, and with service centers all over the country, you might have easier access to getting a replacement. The difference is that since their emphasis is placed more on OEM replacement applications and therefore use a more traditional cell structure, they do not have the same durability or weight advantages of the Optima batteries.

Is this a daily driver or a work/tow vehicle that you need reliable performance from in AGM or even traditional lead-acid battery form? I run one in my daily driver right now, as I live close to a factory outlet, and they offer great prices with always excellent service.

Yellow Top are deep-cycle batteries, which means they excel in applications with high electrical load above what you would normally subject a stock vehicle to. Optima BlueT op : BlueT op batteries in their light gray case are essentially identical to the Yellow batteries in the fact that they are starting and deep-cycle capable, but with added threaded terminals on top in order to accommodate extra accessories that need to be run.

The product delivers a strong burst of ignition power whenever you need it, regardless of the weather. Also, since the battery can be mounted in almost any position, it’s a perfect match for a wide range of vehicles.

This is crucial, as the battery needs to fit perfectly in its tray, so it can be secured and protected against vibrations. CCA represents the battery’s ability to start a vehicle at 0 degrees Fahrenheit, while CA represents the energy required to start a car at temperatures of 31 degrees Fahrenheit.

There is actually a code that consists of a letter and number that indicates how fresh a battery is (in other words, when it was manufactured). As for low maintenance batteries, they’re unsealed with caps, which allows the driver to occasionally add water.

All car batteries have some form of warranty, but you naturally want to go for the longest free replacement period you can get. This is because sometimes things just don’t work as they should, and if that happens to be the case with your auto battery, you really want to be able to get a free replacement.

As their name suggests, they help start the car and provide power not only to ignition but lights, radio, and more. These batteries have a shallow charge cycle and can only provide power in short bursts, so you do need to recharge them fairly frequently.

However, because they’re sealed, VILA batteries usually cannot be serviced, meaning, if they start developing problems, the only thing you can do is replace them. If you purchase an auto battery that doesn’t fit securely in its tray, you may not only lack power but may damage your car’s components.

Size 75: General Motors cars, mostly mid-sized and compact ones, and some Chrysler vehicles. Size 65: larger cars, trucks, and SUVs from Ford, Mercury and Lincoln.

Clean the cables thoroughly and remove corrosion from around the battery Check the level of the electrolyte and add water to fill cells if necessary Test the electrolyte in each cell with a hydrometer to check the charge of the battery Finally, if the battery is not in good condition, make sure you replace it before it starts giving you a headache.

If you’re in a hurry, and you need some quick power to get on your with your day, use jumper cables to get energy from another car. This is quick and painless, but if your car battery can’t hold a charge properly, you’ll have to jump it every time you want to drive, which is obviously something you want to avoid.

A: Car batteries provide a jolt of power needed to put electrical components to work. A: Asking your mechanic to replace your car battery is always a good idea, but you can do it on your own if you want to.

Remove the plastic caps that cover the posts and spray both terminals with an anti-corrosion solution. Poor maintenance (especially true for low maintenance batteries that require you to add water regularly) Bad driving habits (for example, leaving your headlights on overnight) Freezing or hot temperatures Parasitic drains in the electrical systems A factory defect (rare).

As for how much water, only add enough to cover the plastic element protector by about ¾ below the top of the cell. A: It’s not a secret that extreme temperatures are not good for the health of car batteries.

It’s our top pick because it comes from a reputable brand, it has a long lifespan, and it's very powerful with an excellent reserve capacity of 100 minutes. Due to its Spirally technology, the Rector 34/78 is highly resistant to vibrations and extreme temperatures.
