Was thinking about starting from the Alston trailhead and hiking over Mosquito Pass to the Clyde Lake or China Flat area. USA Duane Hall Locale: Extreme northern Sierra Nevada Clyde Lake is kinda confining and a hike down to it from the trail.

China Flat is more open and has creek fishing potential, with widely scattered campsites, depending on what you like. Rick Dreyer Locale: Northern California IMHO the bestDesolation launch spot is Wright's Lake–many trails and many zones accessible from there.

Alex Wallace Locale: Sierra Nevada North THS at Wrights Lake(Rockbound and Twin Lakes TH) are good starting points, but if you're only going for a couple of days and want to get into the heart of the scenery, then I would recommend entering from one of the East side THS (e.g. Glen Alpine, Bayview). Check conditions on the volunteers' website, give the local Ranger a call, and plan accordingly.
