I have been watching Wheel of Fortune for more than 20 years now–my parents even tell me that the game taught me how to read. And all the while I have unquestionably thought that the best letters to call during the bonus round are C M D and A.
But watching the program last night, I realized I had no factual basis for that. So I figured I would do some quick Googling and find out what the best letters actually were.
I found this website, which archives Wheel of Fortune bonus round puzzles and other associated information. This just goes to show you that the bonus round puzzles are not a random sample of words from the English language–in real life, O is the fourth most common letter after E, T, and A.
However, the producers intentionally pick puzzles where those letters don’t show up. It ranks just slightly below the least frequent vowel (U, 4.7%) but higher than N (4.5%), S (3.8%) and L (3.7%).
G’s frequency might be overrated since a lot of those come from -ING suffixes, which you could reasonably guess if you see a word like _ _ _ _ _ N _. Letters like C, B, or P might have an advantage in that they could appear at the beginning of words more frequently and are thus more valuable.
There are a bunch of interesting questions we can now answer that I have this dataset. Since this category always begins with a word ending in -ING, having the G be revealed in that slot is worthless to a contestant.
But even if you remove those puzzles from the sample, G ranks much higher than the nearest alternatives. Every so often, a Twitter account pops up on our radar that makes us laugh so hard, we wish we'd thought to create it first.
The Wheel of Fortune Answers” Twitter feed (@wofanswers) is one of those creations. This parody account is perfect for those of us who like to shout out our Wheel of Fortune answers before the contestants have a chance to solve the puzzle.
Except, instead of shouting out the correct answer, this Twitter feed provides the most hilariously incorrect puzzle solutions possible. While some answers contain curse words or other slightly dirty words, the best false answers always manage to toe the line between clean and raunchy humor.
And no, the false answers do not have to make any sort of sense, in any way. Kind of like the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, but without the turkey, floats, and joy.
These cheerful couples must be in the midst of an existential crisis of sorts. Not sure where “The Mouth of Janice” is on a map, but we hear it's spectacular in the autumn.

I don't think MINI meant a new post for each answer... Anyway, I just added a shit-ton more myself. Once you're done with your gaming session for the night, click on the post button and send it through.
