Recommendations to fast- charge iPhone or iPad often include picking up the $20 18W power adapter from Apple or similar from a third party. Follow along for which iPhones and iPads toucan fast charge with Apple’s MacBook chargers.

The good news is that most recent iPhones and iPads work with all the Mac notebook USB-C chargers, even the 96W model that comes with the 16-inch MacBook Pro. Note: depending on the current capacity of your battery, your device will pull different levels of power.

I've heard that the iPad power brick (I think 10 watts) charges the phone faster. Unless there is some reason to the contrary that I'm not aware of, yes, toucan use your MacBookcharger with your iPhone.

(Note that it is not a good idea to charge your MacBook with an iPhone or iPad charger !) For a few years I've charged my iPhone with an iPad charger.

Also, I heard in a podcast about videos warning about USB-C to USB converters. My MacBook Pro 13inch Late 2016 61W USB-C Power brick says output: 20.3V/3A, 9V/3A or 5.2V/2.4A.

Using a USB-C to USB-A adapter and a USB-A to Lighting cable to your MacBookcharger means your iPhone gets no more power than using a common 12 watt USB-A charger, both cases means the phone sees 5 volts @ 2.4 amps. With the MacBook 29 watt charger and a USB-C to Lightning cable the iPhone sees more power, but Apple doesn't say how much more.

If you wish to carry around just one charger then I would suggest getting something bigger to charge both. Too small though, and you will be waiting for your devices to charge when you would not have to with a larger charger.

With a 30 watt charger being the default for either device it would seem logical that to charge both at the same time with their maximum charge rate it would take the 61 watt charger. The MacBook will pass power just fine to the phone so both can charge quickly.

If a new charger is something that you might not see a need for at this time then that's fine, the charger you have will not overheat or anything. The phone and laptop are smart enough to share the power and still charge, if just more slowly than with a larger charger.

Just connect your device to the power adapter with the USB to Lightning cable, 30-pin to USB cable, or Apple Watch charger that came with your device. Blackzheep / Shutterstock On the latest MacBook Pros, Apple has replaced all the ports with USB-C connections.

The simplest solution is to ditch the old USB connector altogether and switch over to USB-C. Apple sells adapter cables that allow you to connect your phone directly to your laptop, with no dongles or mess to worry about, though toucan always get a third party cable for cheaper on Amazon. This will let you charge off the wall without your old cable, but then you’ll be stuck juggling between charging your MacBook or your phone, which use different connectors.

These dongles are a little clunkier than just switching to USB-C but will allow you to keep your current USB wall charger while still being able to charge through your MacBook. They are also useful for plugging other USB based devices into your MacBook, so it’s good to have one around even if you prefer using the USB-C to Lightning cable to charge your phone.

He's written hundreds of articles for How-To Geek and CloudSavvy IT that have been read millions of times. These are a typical question arises in the mind of a user who owns both a smartphone and a MacBook both has a Type-C port.

The Google Pixel XL needs a mere 18W charger output. Which means that youcancharge your Google smartphone with your Apple Laptop charger but not vice versa. This allows you the luxury of having to carry only one charger that can be used to charge you two completely different devices.

The MacBookcharger will reduce its wattage to meet the power requirements of the smartphone. But the 18W charger output of the smartphone won’t be enough to meet the power requirements to charge the MacBook.

A unique feature of the Power Delivery feature is that along with fast charging, this USB standard also permits both host and peripheral devices to supply power. This is carried out by sending packets of data between the host and source across the USB communication (CC) lines.

For example, a smartphone requesting 10W of power would require a 5V, 2A configuration with the source. At the same time, a laptop needing 30W of power would require 15V and 2A from its charger.

Smartphones do not require a Power Delivery mode to charge any quicker, however support for a universal USB fast charging makes Power Delivery, a necessary feature in the future. For fast charging all of them are compatible, but the 18W USB-C charger is the cheapest, but again for your case you don't need to buy an adaptor as you already have one, you just need the cable in case you don't have it.

If I use a USB-A to USB-C lead, can I charge my 2015 MacBook through the UK spec mains plug that comes with an iPhone 6 (with USB-A out)? If so, has anyone tried it, and how long does it take to charge from flat? I can see that this would be useful if travelling and not wanting to carry the MB power brick.

The phone charger just doesn't have enough output to both power the device and charge the battery. The iPad chargers generally work ok, but even they can be put into a state of 'not charging' while the MacBook is in heavy use or has the screen brightness way up.

I'm going on a four-month trip with an iPhone, MacBook, and iPad (between two of us) and it would be nice to have a single common power brick for all three. But, in the meantime, there's no USB-C to Lightning cable, so there's no possibility to use the USB-C charging brick without a slew of adaptors that might or might not work.

Even four months on, the only USB-C thumb drive still seems to be San Disk's (Patriot's “June launch” for their much nicer one seems to have evaporated).5-6 hours for a full charge sounds OK to me. That adapter is small and can stay right on the end of your lightning cable, doubles as an adapter for your other USB peripherals, and then youcancharge all devices from a single brick, and quickly.4-5 hours isn't bad most of the time, until you're down to 30% battery and want to get a quick top-off to take it somewhere.

It's not bad for keeping the MB charged during use, but you won't see the battery gauge go up much. Even four months on, the only USB-C thumb drive still seems to be San Disk's (Patriot's “June launch” for their much nicer one seems to have evaporated).

However, if you wish to just maintain your battery %, it won't decrease while you're using your MacBook, as long as it's not processor intensive. Yes, MacBook and iPads would soon be magnetically-equipped wireless charging docks on the laptop's wrist rest and the wide backside of the Apple tablet.

The original patent filing dates back to as early as March 2016, which is a technology four years in the making for Apple to improve and perfect. Say goodbye to MagSafe and lightning connectors and only rely on one's MacBook and/or iPad to charge one's iPhone, Apple Watch, etc.

This venture would make use of inductive coils to generate electricity from the PC laptop or tablet, towards other compatible gadgets from the company. The many features of the MacBook and iPad would be added with another one (or a handful of them) to charge anywhere and anytime, by just placing the gadget atop each other.

This benefits Apple because it has total control of its devices that range from smartphones, tablets, laptops, and other accessories. The change for Apple would not be massive as it would only add the inductive coils on select places in the devices, which the company has been planning since 2016 and made space for these already.

So it is surprising for me to see that many of those iPhone owners don’t take care of their devices in the one way that can have the most impact over their lasting value: The battery. The health of a battery, also known as its SO (State of Health), is the current condition of a battery at any point in time when compared to its ideal conditions and is usually shown as a percentage.

This is specially true with devices like the iPhone, which in most cases remain on all day long. So let’s dive into a few very important tips on how to rightly charge your iPhone’s battery to preserve its health over time.

In my opinion, this helps calibrate your battery indicator properly. On the same line, try to avoid charging your iPhone while it is in its case, since it will make it hotter, which is not good for the battery at all.
