Jeep Wobbles When Braking

So I've been noticing that my TJ has been death wobbling occasionally. I've given my front end a quick inspection and I don't see anything obviously wrong.

Death wobble is usually caused by hitting an expansion joint crossing a bridge, a pothole or unbalanced tire and so on, but it's not a reason for a death wobble. The reasons are usually loose or worn components in the form suspension.

Check everything up from that connects your axle to the frame on both sides, meaning, all connecting points on the axle and the frame side. Women TT, Women control arms, Novak NV241 cable shifter, JCS 1.25" BL + 1" MML.

If it only happens when you break then it's a warped rotor. If it only happens when you break then it's a warped rotor.

This input can be an unbalanced tire shimmy, the impact of a crack or pothole, ... In your case the input is the vibration caused by the brakes.

Keep in mind that free advice can frequently be worth less than you pay for it. Check your track bar, connected from the frame to the axle.

As he/she does that, watch the ends of the track bar and see if they have any play, also look at your tiered ends of your tired to see if it has play as well. Replace hardware as needed. Warped rotors can cause shimmy and rough vibrations on the steering wheel, but that's much different from violent shaking DW.

When you brake, the weight of the jeep transfers forward which causes more stress/force on the steering components and track bar. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 10 or greater.

It could be warped rotors, that start shaking when you brake, and loose bushings or worn components that allow/cause the shaking to get worse as you brake. Also, check your upper and lower control arms.

A bent arm or worn bushing might contribute to the chaos. Last night driving home, shifted to neutral going 60 mph and got horrible death wobble like my tie rod was about to fall off.

Mine was a mixture of alignment and the steering stabilizer. The reason I say mixture I replaced and aligned the same time so not sure if the steering stabilizer was a big part.

List of the following checks....bent rim, allignment, bad or bubble in the tire, steering stabilizer. Ball joints tier rod ends. Hope I helped.

STEERING STABILIZERS NEVER EVER NEVER FUN DEATH WOBBLE. Check all the control arm bushings, and track bar ends, ball joints, and all steering rod ends.

Make sure the track bar is tight and the bracket hole isn't ova led. Might look into having your front rotors turned or replaced.

Yeah, if it's when you're braking ... I used to get horrible shaking like that because of rotor issues. I was never hard on my brakes, I just assumed it was a common problem.

They were worn so inconsistent/ rutted and, therefore, so unbalanced that at a certain speed, it started shaking. They still had decent trod, its just they had worn crooked.

I have a similar issue, but mine doesn't shake unless I touch the brakes. I have a similar issue, but mine doesn't shake unless I touch the brakes.

That's the same issue I had two years ago CIRC or how old this thread is. A new set of pad's and rotor's will solve it.

The only other thing would be a bad bushing or slop in the track bar from letting it go and not fixing it asap. With that being said, it’s important to make absolutely sure that you are only feeling the steering wheel shake when you brake.

If it’s shaking all the time, but just worse when you brake, it could be any of these things, and a real safety concern. If you’ve recently had you wheel(s) taken off for any reason (think safety inspection, tire replacement, brake job, etc) make sure that the lug nuts are tightened.

This is mentioned because if the lug nuts aren’t tight, a wheel can and will fall off. When guide pins fail, they cause the brake pads to make uneven contact with the rotors.

Between the potential for the brake pads to hit the rotor at the wrong angle, glazing, and potential stuck calipers, dry guide pins can definitely cause your steering wheel to vibrate when you push the brakes. A visual inspection will often reveal grooves and unevenness even to the untrained eye.

It distributes the pressure evenly and your Wrangler’s steering wheel will not shake. If the brake pads are worn past their useful life, or if they are dirty, they will no longer be able to make the quality contact with your steering wheel.

At this point, you’ll feel your steering wheel shake as the brakes are pressed down. Warped rotors, dry guide pins, and bad brake pads can all increase your Jeep Wrangler’s stopping distance.
