The kitchen retailer says there's a few telltale signs that your mixer's head needs to be adjusted: First, you'll notice that your ingredients are often left on the bottom of the mixing bowl rather than evenly distributed. Finally, if you see excessive scrape marks on the bottom of the bowl, you'll know it's time to adjust your mixer.

There's also another way to quickly check if the height on your mixer's head is the problem: Kitchen calls it the “dime” test, and says it only works with metal-based mixing bowls (don't attempt on glass or ceramic mixing bowls).

I just noticed this happening yesterday while using my Artisan Stand Mixer to help me knead some dough, and I was hoping that someone on SE might be able to help me fix the issue. This doesn't occur when the batter / dough is very loose or if it's on a very low speed, but starting at the medium setting or with any bread-style dough, my mixer head now starts to wobble every so slightly, and it's not encouraging.

Not only do they add a cheerful pop of color to the kitchen, but these appliances are true workhorses for bakers, adept at mixing everything from cookie dough to fluffy buttercream frosting. (And, psst, you can trust a Kitchen stand mixer with your big batch of guacamole, too).

But, like all appliances, the Kitchen lineup of mixers can experience some minor malfunctions and other problems every now and again. Thankfully, the Kitchen team has troubleshooting suggestions, so you can fix your mixer in no time and get back to baking.

Note, though, that the dime test only works with stainless steel bowls, not ceramic or glass ones. To determine if your mixers need adjusting, place the dime in the bowl ; attach your Kitchen flat beater; then turn on the low-speed stir mode.

But if the dime is moving continuously, the beater is too low, possibly scraping your bowl. If you have a bowl lift mixer, the screw is located on the inside of the stand and is visible.

If you want to see how to perform the dime test and adjust your beaters, Kitchen has provided this comprehensive video: Some stand mixers have a Thermal Overload Protection feature that will automatically shut the appliance off if it overheats.

The fix: First, check your dish soap to make sure it doesn’t contain halogen salts (chlorine, fluorine, bromine, iodine), bleach or antibacterial agents that contain the chemical Triclosan, Kitchen suggests. You’ll also want to avoid steel wool when cleaning as it can cause your bowl to rust more easily.

Spread the paste over the surface and allow it to set for 10 minutes or longer (up to a few hours) if you have stubborn rusting. Your Kitchen stand mixer comes packed with a lifetime supply of solid grease, which is distributed around the gears to keep them lubricated, according to the company.

Warm weather can also cause some oil drops to become separated from the lubricating grease. The workhorse kitchen tool can make everything from ice cream to pasta with the help of attachments.

“ Kitchen stand mixers have a universal power hub, which means that all attachments that go into the power hub will fit all stand mixers, regardless of age. There's one exception to this rule: The ice cream maker and the precise heat mixing bowl will not fit on the Artisan Mini (KSM3311/16) due to the bowl being too large for the mini base.

If you're unsure if an attachment fits your Kitchen stand mixer or not, consider these three signs that they don't work together: Read the full statement and more information on how to tell if things aren't working properly between stand mixer and attachments here.

Now, back to our original question, what can't a Kitchen stand mixer do? Tonight when I was making buttercream it started making this odd noise and shaking and vibrating as it mixed.

I turned it off quickly to make sure the bowl was attached properly, and it was. The shakiness isn't so bad on low, but it's definitely not as smooth as it usually is.

I have to hold the head firmly in place as it's mixing to keep if from wobbling. I think there is a screw or a pin or something that needs to be adjusted to hold the head in place.

I just asked this question on another thread about A I found another thread here on cc about how to adjust it and that worked.

I received my Kitchen Stand Mixer as a wedding gift 15 years ago, and it still works like I just pulled it out of the box. To keep your Kitchen in top working order, it’s important to take care of it and regularly check to see if you need to make a few tweaks to maintain it properly.

The simplest thing to clean your Kitchen mixer with is warm soap and water. These can get clogged with food especially if you’ve started the machine on a high setting and splattered your batter.

Some of your attachments are coated and are fine to be put in the dishwasher these are white like the flat beater and dough hook. Unless you purchased a stainless steel whisk with the bowl-lift mixer then you will need to handwash your wire whip by hand, or they will end up like this, and you will get yucky black stuff all over the place.

Put in enough water to cover the neck of the attachment and boil it for 20 minutes. Wipe it down with a clean dry rag to get more of the black stuff off and if you still have a bit then repeat the process.

Turn on the flat beater and if it doesn’t move the dime at all you need to lower it. When properly adjusted, the flat beater will not strike on the bottom or side of the bowl.

Attach flat beater and close top to see if it needs to be moved up or down Locate the screw on the neck of the mixer as seen in the picture below for your tilt-head mixer and adjust it, so the flat beater just clears the bottom surface of the bowl.
