So my sons, 9 and 10 years old, were begging me to buy this game for them. However, when we saw it, we discovered it requires Xbox Gold Live.
I was not happy about this, but we got a free month, and so they will get to play it for 30 days. If we had already purchased this membership, that wouldn't have been a problem for us, but I'm not spending $10 each month to play a game.
Because this is an online multiplayer game, however, I was a little nervous about her interacting with others considering her age and gender. I was able to disable the microphone and turn down the volume, so she could not hear what others were saying, so that seems to have worked out okay.
The reason for the lower rating is that you must have an Xbox Live GOLD account to play the game. My daughter had a free Xbox Live Silver account, which was not adequate.
After looking closer at the box, I did see is indicated (in a very small graphic) that a gold account was required. As I mentioned before, it also took a little of effort on my part to ensure the online interaction was restricted to what I would have considered an age-appropriate setting.
(With that being said, I still prefer being able to modify those settings myself as a parent, as opposed to some games which simply limit access under a certain age, whether I deem such restriction reasonable for my child or not.) Long story, short... My daughter really enjoys the game.
Just be prepared to buy an Xbox Live Gold account if you do not already have one (and do some work to make the online interactions age appropriate, if the purchase is for kids). This game was a lot of fun to play with friends, especially for the younger crowd of gamers (think younger teens) if you have a problem with the more violent (gory) shooter games.
Nothing too fancy in terms of graphics or sound, but a fun play if you can find a good group online. My sons really are the users (I have played several times, and it is great).
The only issue at the beginning was that you need Microsoft Gold membership ($10.00/ month or 60.00 per year plus o minus) so it has an extra cost to play. Several times I have been bumped from the server and could not play the game.
Summary: Zombies are invading your home, and the only defense is your arsenal of plants ! Armed with an alien nursery-worth of zombie-zapping plants like peashooters and cherry bombs, you'll need to think fast and plant faster to stop dozens of types of zombies dead in their tracks.

Lots of options on how to tackle challenges, many game modes, a lot of depth with zombies and plants, customizable house, grow your own plants, and unlockable. I have spent more hours on this game than any other recent release. A definite must-have for Xbox Live arcade fans.
One downfall is no online multiplayer support. That was not a dealbreaker for me, but I can see online enthusiast's being turned away by it, however there is so much to do in single player that this game will keep you entertained for hours and hours even with no online.
If you haven't it in your game collection you MUST buy it :) … Expand It's a great addition to this already great game.
My only disappointment is it's basically the same as the PC version. I would have liked to see new zombie types and new plants.
On a smartphone it is passable but very simple; on a console its is extremely tedious and There are so much better puzzle defense games. On a smartphone it is passable but very simple; on a console its is extremely tedious and there are far better puzzle games.
